Hilton challenged Optimised to enhance visibility across their diverse systems and achieve substantial energy savings.
Prior to the optimisation initiative, Hilton grappled with two outdated BeMS (Building Energy Management System) Supervisors (software) — Trend and Automated Logic. Their primary chilled water system was in disrepair, and there was minimal control and oversight of guest rooms.
Optimised orchestrated a seamless transition, shifting both BeMS systems to the cutting-edge Trend Niagara platform. They fine-tuned the primary chilled water system for optimal performance and introduced a ground-breaking temperature-based demand load-shaping strategy. To ensure sustained energy savings, a round-the-clock managed service was implemented.
Both the existing Trend and Automated Logic systems were transferred to the Trend IQVision Niagara supervisor platform. The data was meticulously organised into the standardised BIM IFC data model, enabling streamlined access to structured data on external third-party platforms like Microsoft Azure and SkySparks.
Featuring the integration of Optimised innovative chiller plant management system, engineered for precision control across the entire chiller plant. This advanced system adapts to the building load, seamlessly initiating, staging, and halting the plant. It dynamically adjusts the chilled water supply temperature and aligns the kW produced with the building’s kW requirements for unparalleled efficiency.
Following the implementation of these systems, our applications engineers actively transmitted half-hourly sub-meter data to our Azure platform. This data, logged at half-hour intervals, was seamlessly transferred to our cloud-based energy monitoring and analysis software. Additionally, fiscal electric and gas meter data were ingested through a data aggregator. This comprehensive approach establishes transparency and creates baseline data for Measurement and Verification (M&V), allowing effective monitoring and measurement of the building optimisation impact. The results are a compelling return on investment for the client.
Through the analysis of the data and insights, we implemented a temperature-based load-shaping strategy to reduce the building load at peak times of the day without affecting comfort.
The Optimised Remote Optimisation Centre (referred to as ROC) provided 24/7/365 monitoring for the client, identifying anomalies, addressing energy issues, conducting BeMS analysis, and delivering ongoing energy management recommendations.
The collaboration between the Optimised and on-site engineering teams meant that the recommended changes, including an advanced cooling demand strategy, could be implemented without compromising comfort for hotel occupants.
As a result, Hilton’s energy savings exceeded target within months, with the reassurance of the Optimised Remote Optimisation Centre to maintain those savings for the long-term, to achieve a projected annual saving of 80.3 tCO2e, equating to £50,040.
The Optimised ROC has given us greater visibility, combined with the site BeMS optimisation, a drastically improved low-cost reliable chilled water system and greater comfort within our guest rooms. The insights, processes, and expertise we now have in place have created key foundations for further savings across the hotel as we strive for a more sustainable future
