In July 2022, Optimised proudly achieved B Corp certification, a milestone on our journey to responsible business practices. For Optimised, this meant a commitment to balance profit with purpose, driving ethical and sustainable business decisions.
As we move through the recertification process, we are reflecting on our progress, identifying growth opportunities, and embedding B Corp principles even more deeply into our strategy. Our ambition is clear: to not only maintain our status but continuously raise the bar, improving our policies and practices to create meaningful change.
B Corp certification, awarded by the non-profit organisation B Lab, is a globally recognised standard for businesses with high levels of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Companies undergo a comprehensive assessment process, scoring across five impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.
This is the framework under which we initially certified, but B Lab is evolving the standards to meet growing global challenges. The new standards aim to provide greater clarity, focusing on the most impactful business actions and reinforcing the leadership role that B Corps play in driving systemic change. As climate urgency and societal inequalities escalate, these evolving standards will ensure businesses continue to make meaningful contributions where they matter most.
Certified B Corps must recertify every three years, ensuring companies actively progress, adapting to evolving standards and maintaining their commitment to long-term impact. The process is not about maintaining the status quo - it’s about raising the bar, refining policies, and ensuring that businesses continue to be a force for good.
Our B Corp certification in 2022, with a B Impact Assessment score of 86.3, was a proud milestone, but for us, it was just the beginning. Over the past two years, we have strengthened our policies, deepened our impact, and further embedded B Corp principles into our strategy.
This area is about upholding ethical business practices, ensuring transparency, maintaining accountability, and aligning company operations with a mission-driven approach. At Optimised, we reviewed our Operational Framework to prioritise ethics, wellbeing and sustainability in all aspects of our business operations. Transparency and accountability remain central to our leadership approach, ensuring long-term sustainability takes precedence over short-term gains.
This area is about fostering employee well-being through fair pay, comprehensive benefits, career development opportunities, and a supportive work environment. We have introduced a professional development allowance to support continued learning and up-skilling, as well as a dedicated sustainability allowance to encourage employees to purchase more sustainable products. Additionally, employees benefit from Cycle to Work and EV car schemes, two sustainable holiday travel days per year, and one paid day off annually to volunteer for a charity of their choice.
This area focuses on positively impacting local and global communities by promoting diversity, equitable supply chain practices, social responsibility, and economic contribution. At Optimised, we continue to deepen our impact through increased volunteering opportunities, a focus on sustainable procurement—prioritising ethical, sustainable, and local suppliers—and a charitable donations policy that supports organisations aligned with our mission and values.
This area focuses on minimising environmental impact through sustainable resource management, reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, and responsible waste reduction. At Optimised, sustainability is at the core of our operations, and we are continuously working to minimise our environmental impact. We have electrified our company fleet, replacing diesel vans with electric alternatives, eliminating approximately 15.25 tCO2e annually. We are also a zero waste to landfill business, ensuring responsible waste management practices. Our commitment to data-driven sustainability is reflected in how we continuously improve our carbon footprint data collection, calculation methodology, and reporting processes to enhance accuracy and accountability.
This area ensures ethical business conduct through responsible marketing, product and service impact, data privacy, and a commitment to customer well-being. For Optimised, ethical business practices guide our customer engagement strategy, with a focus on transparent marketing, data protection, and responsible service delivery. We strive to go beyond service provision, delivering solutions that drive positive change.
As we approach recertification, we remain dedicated to raising the bar, continuously improving our impact, and demonstrating leadership in responsible business.
Recertifying as a B Corp is not simply a checklist process; it involves a thorough evaluation of our policies, impact, and business practices. Every team at Optimised has played a role in strengthening our commitments, from refining employee benefits and workplace equity to enhancing sustainability efforts and responsible supply chain practices. Through ongoing stakeholder engagement, we ensure that our strategy reflects the needs of employees, customers, suppliers, and partners.
The B Impact Assessment has helped us identify new growth opportunities, ensuring we stay at the forefront of ethical and sustainable business. As B Lab raises the bar with stricter impact standards and greater climate commitments, we are proactively aligning our goals to drive progress.
